For those anxiously awaiting the hype driven debut of the Artic Monkeys cd, I
have something to hold you over until then. In fact if the Arctic’s debut is
even an ounce as promising as the Subways’ ‘Young For Eternity’, they will have
eagerly engaged the following that they deserve. Garnering the youth of the
afore mentioned Artic Monkeys, the fearless Subways produce some of the
ferocious raw exuberance deemed to the likes of Ash, Supergrass and Kenickie
during the height of Britpop. Though not always gearing in the punk pop
direction the melodies far exceed the quality of most garage groups around
today, let alone your everyday teenage power pop. "Young for Eternity" says it
when it rebels like a Jesus and Mary Chain rocker mixed in with brash energy.
As any teen in the suburbs can tell you these guys are amongst the highlights in
the new season of the American teen cult classic ‘The O.C.’ The soundtrack
features the heavily played ‘Rock and Roll Queen’ which is amongst Rodney
Bingenheimer's most requested tunes on LA’s staple alt station KROQ. With the
stamp of approval across the board here in the States, these youngsters bring
the glory of glam and are destined for eternal stardom. Keep an eye out for them
because regardless of how the media receives the Subways, the impression they
make on our hearts is satisfaction enough.
